Online hacking is the illegal entry into a computer through system gaps using spyware to obtain, tamper with or destroy data.

Hacking methods:

  • Probes and scans. attempts to discover information about remote computers
  • Account compromise. Discovery of user accounts and their passwords.
  • Packet sniffing. Capturing data that is sent across a network.
  • Denial of service. Flooding a network with requests that can overwhelm it .
  • Malicious code. Trojan horses, worms, viruses
  • Spoofing. Making a computer look like a "trusted computer".

  • Hacking of servers and main frames..
  • Hacking of PCs.
  • Interception of data during transmission on the net.
  • Distortion of Websites by changing their content.
  • Denial-of-service attacks.

Hacking motives:

  • Political. Attacks against a governmental site or an institution.
  • Economical. Such as unfair trade competitions.
  • Retaliation. Some dissatisfied workers may try to take revenge of their institutions.
  • Subversive nature. To Satisfy a hacker destructive desires.
  • The abundance of hacking programs. Testing hacking programs.
  • Price. People want to get free access to expensive computer programs.

Hacking consequences:

  • Violations of the law and accountability.
  • Reputation damage.
  • Waste of resources.
  • Waste of time.

How to protect your PC against hacking:

  • Install Software Updates and patches.
  • Install a firewall program.
  • Install an antivirus program and keep it updated.
  • Have a strong password and change it regularly.
